Each year the traditional "Giant Balloon Race" kicks off the opening day of the summer's greatest event here in Indianapolis - the State Fair. Balloons gather at the Fairgrounds infield at dawn on Opening Day to participate in the invitational Hare and Hound competition that marks the official opening of the Indiana State Fair. Spectators should plan to arrive around 6:00am to catch the inflation and watch as the balloons lift off. |

Don't forget to join us for the "Night Lights" event, taking place the night before Opening Day - come out and watch the balloons as they inflate on the infield at dusk and then entertain the crowds as they "Glow" in the night air. A perfect opportunity to bring your kids and cameras, as spectators can walk along the infield roads, getting up-close glimpses of the magical balloons. |
